Here are a couple of things Pixel tried and liked.
Car harness
Every dog should ride in a harness attached to a security belt, for his safety
(he too can get thrown out of the car) and yours (he can hit you, just like
a projectile).
It is very, very difficult to find a car harness that matches a dachshund thick
body but short legs. Pixel likes the "Walk N Ride" harness ; she doesn't
use it when walking, but it is the only harness we could find that is snug enough
so that she cannot get her legs out of it when lying down in the car, yet it
seems comfortable enough.

The best car seat
OK, now, she is safe in the harness. The problem is that she hates it, since
she cannot move much, and mostly cannot see through the window ; here is the
solution to the problem. A dog car seat that brings her at the window high.
It is very comfortable, the lining is washable, and you can still attached the
harness to the security belt. Pixel looks like a queen in it (we yet have to
take a picture of her). This seat comes in 2 sizes, the larger size being big
enough for 2 or 3 small dogs.

A coat that would fit
We leave in Boston, MA, USA. And it is very very cold in winter. Finding a coat
that fits Pixel, would not get her legs stuck when she runs, and was cute and
practical, was quite a challenge !! We liked this company.

Note ; we did have to do a little bit of alterations for the coat to fit Pixel
perfectly, but it is still the best we could find :)
